How to Delete Your Tinder Account Permanently (iPhone, Android and Web)
Done with swiping? This guide shows you how to delete your Tinder account permanently, step by step. You can do it in the Tinder app on iPhone or Android, or in a web browser on your computer. The whole process takes about two minutes.
Before you delete your Tinder account, check two things. Deleting your profile does not cancel a paid subscription, and uninstalling the app does not delete anything. We cover both below, along with what happens to your matches and data afterward.
If you only need a short break from online dating, you may not need to delete anything. You can hide your profile instead and keep your matches.
Before You Delete: A Quick Checklist
Run through this list first. It saves you from surprise charges and lost data.
- Cancel your subscription separately. Deleting your account does not stop Tinder Plus, Gold or Platinum from renewing. Cancel it where you paid (see the steps below).
- Download your data if you want a copy. Once the account is gone, you can no longer request your data. Tinder lets you request a copy through its account tools while you’re still logged in.
- Save anything from your matches. Your matches, messages and photos are deleted with the account. If a match shared contact details you want to keep, write them down now.
- Make sure you can log in. You need access to your login (phone number, email address, or the Google or Apple account you signed up with) to delete your Tinder account.
How to cancel a Tinder subscription
Tinder’s help center splits this by where you paid:
- iPhone (billed by Apple): Open your phone’s Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Select Tinder and tap Cancel Subscription.
- Android (billed by Google Play): Open Google Play, tap your profile icon, then Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions. Select Tinder and tap Cancel subscription.
- Tinder.com or Android paid by card: In Tinder, tap your profile icon, choose Manage Payment Account, select the subscription and tap Cancel Subscription.
Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. They also don’t move between platforms, so if you switched from iPhone to Android, cancel on the old platform.
Delete, Hide or Uninstall: Which One Do You Need?
People often mix up these three options. Here’s what each one does.
| Option | What happens to your profile | Matches and messages | Stops your subscription? | Can you undo it? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Delete your account | Removed from Tinder | Deleted | No, cancel it separately | Partly, within 90 days (limited test) |
| Hide your profile (turn off Discovery) | New people stop seeing you | Kept, and you can still chat | No | Yes, flip the toggle back on |
| Uninstall the app | Stays live and visible | Kept | No | Yes, just reinstall |
In short, you can delete and pause on Tinder, but they work very differently. Deleting removes your profile. Turning off Discovery hides it from new people while you take a break. Uninstalling the app only removes it from your phone.
How to Delete Your Tinder Account on iPhone
- Open the Tinder app and sign in.
- Tap the profile icon.
- Tap Settings.
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.
- Follow the prompts and confirm.
Your profile disappears from Tinder after the confirmation. Then cancel any Apple subscription from your iPhone’s Settings if you haven’t already.
How to Delete Your Tinder Account on Android
The steps on an Android device match the iPhone ones:
- Open the Tinder app and log in.
- Tap the profile icon, then Settings.
- Scroll down and tap Delete Account.
- Confirm your choice.
If you pay through Google Play, cancel the subscription there too. Deleting the app from your phone afterward is fine, but do it after the account is gone, not instead of deleting it.
How to Delete Your Tinder Account on a Computer
You can also delete your Tinder account from a browser on a laptop or desktop:
- Go to Tinder’s Manage My Account tool at account.gotinder.com.
- Sign in with your Tinder login.
- Tap Delete Account.
- Confirm the deletion.
This route helps if you’ve already uninstalled the app. If you sign in on public Wi-Fi, check what your connection shows with Planet VPN’s IP check tool. A VPN encrypts your internet connection, so others on the same network can’t read your login details.
What Happens After You Delete Your Tinder Account
Once you confirm, here’s what Tinder says happens:
- Your profile stops showing to other users.
- Your matches, messages and photos are deleted under Tinder’s Privacy Policy.
- Tinder keeps profile data for 90 days in a “safety retention window.” It uses this period to investigate harmful or illegal activity. After 90 days, Tinder purges the data.
- You can no longer download a copy of your data.
Your profile and your chats also disappear from your matches’ lists.
Can you recover a deleted Tinder account?
Not fully. For 90 days after deletion, Tinder may let you restore some basic information, such as your name, age and gender. You do this by signing up again with your old login. Tinder says it’s testing this feature on iOS, Android and tinder.com in select markets, so it may not work for you.
Even when it works, your old matches and conversations don’t come back. If you think you might return, hiding your profile is the safer choice.
Can you create a new account?
Yes. You can create a new account later with your phone number or email. Your old matches and messages won’t carry over, and you’ll need to verify your new profile again. If you had a subscription, check that it’s linked to the right account. Our beginner’s guide to Tinder walks you through setting up a new profile.
Keep your next dating profile private
If you join a dating app again, share less from day one. Leave your last name and workplace off your profile, and log in over a protected connection on public Wi-Fi. A VPN can help with that last part, and our Tinder safety guide covers the other risks. Read about using a VPN for social and dating platforms or a dedicated VPN for Tinder, see how Planet VPN treats your data in its no-logs policy, or get the Planet VPN app for your phone. You’ll find everything else on the Planet VPN homepage.
Take Your Privacy Further with Planet VPN
Deleting old dating profiles is a good privacy habit. Your connection is the next step. Planet VPN encrypts your traffic in a couple of taps, which helps when you use dating apps or log in on café and hotel Wi-Fi. Core features are free. You watch a short ad now and then, and in return you get reliable encryption with a no-logs policy. For more locations and no ads, see the Planet VPN plans.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does uninstalling Tinder delete my account?
No. When you uninstall the app from your phone, your Tinder profile stays live and people can still see and match with you. To remove it, use Delete Account in Settings or on account.gotinder.com.
Does deleting my Tinder account cancel my subscription?
No. An active subscription keeps renewing until you cancel it through Apple, Google Play or your Tinder payment account. Cancel it before or right after you delete your profile.
How do I delete my Tinder account if I can’t log in?
Try to recover access first. Reset your login through the app or account.gotinder.com using your phone number or email address. If that doesn’t work, contact Tinder’s tech support through the request form at help.tinder.com and ask them to delete the account. Include the phone number or email linked to your profile so they can find it.
Can I pause my Tinder account instead of deleting it?
Yes. Open Settings and turn off the Discovery toggle (shown as “Enable Discovery” in recent versions). New people won’t see you and you can’t swipe on new profiles, but you can keep chatting with your current matches. Turn it back on whenever you’re ready.
When I delete my Tinder account, does it unmatch everyone?
Yes. Deleting your account removes all your matches and conversations, so your profile and your chat vanish from your former matches’ apps.
Why won’t Tinder let me delete my account?
Often the cause is an outdated app version or a login problem. Update the app and try again, or delete the account from a browser on account.gotinder.com instead. If you still can’t delete it, contact Tinder support through help.tinder.com. If the app won’t load at all on your network, see how to unblock Tinder.
How long does Tinder keep my data after deletion?
Tinder keeps profile data for 90 days after you delete your account. After that, Tinder purges it under its Privacy Policy.
