How to Unblock Pornhub: Why It’s Blocked in Your State and What a VPN Can Do
This article is for adults aged 18 and over. It explains access and privacy, not content.
You type in the address and get a notice instead of the homepage, or the page doesn’t load at all. If you’re wondering how to unblock Pornhub, start with the reason it’s blocked. The answer decides what will work and what you’re allowed to do.
In most cases, the block comes from one of three places. Pornhub’s owner, Aylo, switched the site off in your state or country because of an age verification law. Your country or internet service provider filters adult sites. Or the Wi-Fi you’re on, at school, work or a café, filters porn sites.
This guide covers each case, compares VPNs, proxies, DNS and Tor, and shows how to set up Planet VPN. It also explains what a VPN can’t do, and when you shouldn’t use one at all.
Why Pornhub Is Blocked
Age verification laws in US states
Since 2023, many US states have passed laws that require adult sites to verify every visitor’s age, usually with a government ID or a third-party check. Lawmakers say the rules are designed to protect minors from harmful content online.
Aylo refuses to collect ID data itself, so it blocks Pornhub in states with these laws. Visitors there see a message saying the site is blocked in your state. In June 2025, the US Supreme Court upheld Texas’s law in a case brought by the Free Speech Coalition, a trade group for the adult industry. More states followed.
As of mid-2026, reports list Pornhub as blocked in about 25 states:
Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia and Wyoming.
West Virginia joined in June 2026 and Iowa on July 1, 2026. Louisiana works differently. Pornhub stays online there, and adults confirm their age with the state’s LA Wallet digital ID. Ohio has a similar law, but Aylo says it doesn’t apply to its sites, so Pornhub still works there.
In August 2026, Pornhub wrote to officials in nearly 30 states asking them to repeal these laws. The company wants age checks built into phones and computers by Apple, Google and Microsoft instead.
Age verification outside the US
- United Kingdom. Under the Online Safety Act, Aylo stopped new UK users from accessing Pornhub on February 2, 2026. Existing verified users kept access. From May 2026, new users on iPhone and iPad who pass Apple’s built-in age check get the standard site. In September 2026, the regulator Ofcom opened an investigation into whether Aylo’s age checks do enough to keep children out.
- France. Aylo pulled its sites in June 2025 over French age verification rules. Since June 2026, French visitors get a limited version without explicit content, and new sign-ups are closed.
- Australia. Aylo blocked its sites in March 2026 after age verification rules took effect there.
Country and ISP blocks
Some governments ban pornography outright and order local providers to block adult websites. In other places, your internet service provider runs its own filter, or a family filter on your account blocks porn sites. Your router can do the same if someone set up parental controls on it.
School, work and public Wi-Fi filters
Schools, offices, libraries and many public hotspots filter adult content. The network admin blocks the domains or uses a filtering DNS service. Switch to another network, and the site loads.
Before You Try Anything: Know the Rules
Laws differ, and you’re responsible for following the ones where you live.
- VPNs are legal in the US, the UK and most of Europe. A few countries restrict or ban them.
- State age verification laws target websites, not visitors. Still, using a VPN to avoid an age check may break a site’s terms, and some lawmakers have proposed rules on VPN use for adult content. Check your local law before you connect.
- Some countries ban pornography itself. A VPN doesn’t change what’s legal where you are.
- School and work networks have their own rules. Many ban adult content and VPNs. Respect them.
- Under 18? Don’t try. Age checks and filters exist to keep minors off adult sites.
We don’t recommend using a VPN to get around an age verification law or a legal ban.
VPN vs Proxy vs DNS vs Tor: How the Options Compare
| Method | How it works | Pros | Cons |
|---|---|---|---|
| VPN (virtual private network) | Encrypts all your traffic and sends it through a server in another location | Hides your browsing from your network and ISP, works across apps, includes a kill switch | Slight speed loss, some networks block VPNs, doesn’t change the law |
| Proxy server | Forwards browser traffic through another server | Quick to set up | Usually no encryption. A free proxy can log, sell or change your traffic and inject ads or malware |
| Custom DNS | Swaps your network’s DNS for another provider | Gets past simple DNS filters | No encryption, doesn’t hide your IP address, fails against most blocks |
| Tor Browser | Sends traffic through three volunteer relays | Strong privacy, free | Very slow for video, many sites block Tor exit nodes |
| Mobile data | Uses your carrier instead of the Wi-Fi | Works when only the Wi-Fi filters | Uses data, won’t help with state or country blocks |
A word on free proxy sites: they’re the least safe option here. Many run on ads from shady networks, and you have no idea who sees your traffic. A VPN is the only option in the table that encrypts your whole internet connection.
How a VPN Works on Adult Sites
A VPN creates an encrypted tunnel between your device and a VPN server. Your ISP, school or Wi-Fi owner sees that you’re connected to a VPN. They can’t see which sites you open. The site you visit sees the VPN server’s IP address instead of yours. You can confirm the change with the Planet VPN IP check tool.
That’s why many adults use a VPN for privacy on adult websites, even where the site isn’t blocked. Our Pornhub VPN page explains how Planet VPN handles adult sites. A VPN with a no-logs policy also keeps no record of the sites you visit. You can learn more about the service on the Planet VPN homepage.
A VPN has limits, too:
- It won’t make you anonymous to Pornhub if you log in. The site still knows your account.
- It doesn’t verify your age. If a region requires age verification, a VPN doesn’t change that rule.
- It doesn’t block malware or scam pages. Keep your browser updated and use an ad blocker. Our guide to Pornhub malware and privacy risks covers the threats in detail.
- It can’t help with a banned account or a site that’s down for everyone.
How to Set Up Planet VPN, Step by Step
These steps suit an adult who wants private, encrypted browsing, for example on public Wi-Fi or while traveling in a place where legal adult content is available.
- Download the app. Get Planet VPN for Android, iOS, Windows or Mac. On a computer, you can also add the browser extension.
- Open the app and allow the VPN connection. Your phone or computer asks for permission the first time.
- Choose a server location. A nearby server usually gives the best speed for streaming. See the list of free VPN server locations.
- Connect. The app shows when the connection is active.
- Keep the Kill Switch on. It cuts your internet if the VPN drops, so your traffic doesn’t slip back onto your regular connection.
- Open a private window. Incognito mode keeps the visit out of your browser history on a shared device.
- Check for DNS leaks. Run the free DNS leak test to make sure your requests go through the VPN.
Want to protect every device at home at once? Planet VPN also works on a router.
If it still doesn’t load
- Clear your browser’s cookies and cache, then reload.
- Try a different server.
- Switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data. Some strict networks block VPN connections.
- Check whether the site is down for everyone on an outage tracker.
- If a region requires age verification, you’ll still see that notice. That’s the site following local law.
Can You Access Pornhub Without a VPN?
Sometimes. In Louisiana, adults verify their age with LA Wallet. In the UK, adults with an existing verified account, or a verified iPhone or iPad, can sign in. If only your Wi-Fi blocks adult sites, mobile data on a personal device may work. Changing your DNS helps only against the simplest filters. Once you’re in, our guide on how to use Pornhub covers accounts, settings and privacy.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is Pornhub blocked in my state?
Your state passed an age verification law that requires adult sites to check every visitor’s ID. Aylo, Pornhub’s owner, chose to block the site in those states instead of collecting ID. About 25 states were affected by mid-2026, including Texas, Florida, Virginia and Tennessee.
Is it legal to use a VPN for Pornhub?
VPNs are legal in the US and most countries. Age verification laws in US states target websites, not visitors. Using a VPN to avoid an age check may still break the site’s terms, and rules can change. Some countries ban pornography entirely. Check the laws where you live before you connect.
Can a free VPN unblock Pornhub?
A trustworthy free VPN can encrypt your connection and change your IP address. Be careful with unknown free VPNs and free proxies. Some log or sell your data, and others show risky ads. Pick a provider that explains how it makes money and keeps no logs.
Can Pornhub see my real location if I use a VPN?
Pornhub sees the VPN server’s IP address, not your own. Your location can still leak through a logged-in account, browser settings or GPS permissions. Log out and deny location access if you want to keep it private. If you’d rather not leave an account behind at all, here’s how to delete your Pornhub account.
Does a VPN slow down Pornhub?
A VPN can cut your speed a little, since your traffic travels further and gets encrypted. A nearby server keeps the difference small. Most people can stream HD video over a good VPN connection.
How do I unblock Pornhub in the UK?
Since February 2026, Aylo blocks new UK users. Adults with an existing verified account can still log in, and new users on an iPhone or iPad who pass Apple’s age check get the standard site. Those are the routes that follow UK law.
Is it safe to use a proxy to access Pornhub?
Most free proxies don’t encrypt your traffic. The owner can see what you do, log it and insert ads or malware. A reputable VPN with a no-logs policy is a safer choice for your privacy.
